How Music Can Structure a Preschool Class

In the usual two to three hours a child is in preschool, music can help in making a distinction between different activity times. It may be too much to expect from a three year old to know that Fifteen minutes later we will have story time' or that We' ll go to the playground at 2PM' . These concepts are still a little abstract and many can' t even tell the time. Hence, specific music can help structure a preschool class.

May preschoolers associate clean-up music with any song they are use to listening to come clean-up time. So many parents wish it would work as efficiently at home, but nevertheless as soon a they hear the clean-up music in class, they leave what they are doing (well, at least most of them do) and start picking up toys, and clearing up the mess.

Shake Away Jitters

Music in a preschool class can also help include shyer kids to join in who may not communicate as well during circle time or other verbal instances. There may be a language barrier, a speech development issue or just simple shyness. Irrespective of the problem, music can cross all barriers and help a child participate without inhibition.

When the children see the teachers shake and wiggle with them, they find it really funny to have adults do the same thing and laughter permeates through the initial uneasiness and separation anxiety from their parents.

Learn Stuff

Preschool music usually focuses on repetition and familiar words. This makes the child feel more at home and is a sneaky but effective way of learning stuff too. There is the famous Days of the Week song and everyone loves Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes. Preschool music can help develop hand eye coordination, a spirit of camaraderie and the repetition can help improve memory and language skills.

Learning and practicing holiday songs can be a apart of preschool music that can help a child learn how to perform in front of an audience, even if it is just a dozen moms and dads. Learning the actions of Itsy Bitsy Spider for Halloween or shaking tambourines on Jingle Bells for Christmas is just one way to develop confidence in little kids.

You can find preschool music in stores and online or just ask your child' s preschool teacher for the name of the CD she uses the most. Buy a copy and who knows, clean up time in your home may become a breeze too.
